Our Federation

What is a Federation?

Unstone St Mary’s Nursery & Infant and Unstone Junior School formed the “Unstone Schools Federation” in September 2016. Following a year’s collaboration after the retirement of the Infant School Headteacher. This means that there is one head teacher and one governing body across the two schools. The Federation is a friendly, caring, family community, committed to achievement and sharing in the successes of each individual. As a federation one of our key objectives is to create a through primary ethos and therefore we work to ensure consistency in practice through shared policies and procedures.

We plan for joint events when the children, staff and parents can come together for example though our end of term assemblies and fundraising. The children come together for special events and activities e.g. assemblies, Sports Day, themed days. Sometimes the children in the infant and the junior schools join together for special reading events.

Staff also have the opportunity to work closely together as a joint federation staff. We have joint training, and staff meetings. Some staff work in both schools on a daily basis, and increasingly other staff can be found working in each other’s school.  This enables staff to share their expertise and develop professionally. It can be cost effective too!

We have a federation newsletter each term to help parents know what is happening in each school.
This joined up working ensures consistency of approach and better progression and transition for all of our children.

Both schools are a small schools with experienced teams who are passionate about making learning fun and exciting.

Everyone in Unstone Schools Federation is immensely proud of both schools.

Kind regards
Mrs Rachael Fowlds
