Butterflies Year 1 & Year 2

Welcome to Butterflies' Class Page!

I am so excited to welcome you back to school! I hope you have all had a wonderful Christmas break!

Below you will find lots of information about all the exciting things and the different topics we are learning this half term.

Our topic focus this term is ‘ Rumble in the Jungle'

English

In our English lessons this term we will be focusing on the stories Monkey Puzzle, Rumble in the Jungle and Dear Greenpeace. We will be using these stories to support reading, discussion and writing activities, including describing characters and settings, retelling stories and writing simple sentences.

Maths

In maths this term, we will be following the White Rose programme for Addition and Subtraction within 100. Children will begin by using related facts and adding and subtracting 1s. They will then learn strategies for adding and subtracting to, from and across the next 10. As the term progresses, children will add and subtract 10s, add and subtract two-digit numbers (with and without crossing a 10), and practise mixed addition and subtraction. The unit will finish with comparing calculations and solving missing number problems.

Please continue to use Numbots as this really helps.

RE

Within RE we will be asking the question, ‘Why do Christians believe God gave Jesus to the world?’

Computing

In Computing we will be looking at: Programming A – Robot algorithms

PSHE

In PSHE, the children will be learning about the theme Dreams and Goals. They will explore how to set realistic goals, develop perseverance and recognise their own learning strengths. The children will also learn the importance of working with others, including group co-operation, contributing to tasks and sharing success.

Art

In Art, the children will be creating Animal Art inspired by the work of Henri Rousseau. They will learn about his paintings, focusing on his use of colour, pattern and animals. The children will develop their drawing and painting skills and use their ideas and imagination to create their own artwork, making links to Rousseau’s style.

Music

In Music, the children will be learning about Sound and Symbol 1. They will explore different sounds and learn how these can be represented using simple symbols. The children will listen carefully, create their own sounds and begin to read and use symbols to record and perform music

PE

PE will be on Tuesday and Wednesday, so please ensure they bring in their PE kit. PE kit consists of plain white t-shirt, plain black shorts and trainers.

Homework

Spellings will be handed out on a Friday to practice for the following Thursday. Please continue to use Spelling Shed and Numbots to support at home. Reading books will be changed every Friday but please ensure you bring your reading book and record every day.
