In Acorns, we all work together to create a curriculum that is fun, engaging and inspirational. We use a child centred, topic based approach to cover all the curriculum areas. Using the DFE Programmes of Study and the children's suggestions of what they would enjoy learning about, we create a long term plan that maps out our year in Acorns.
Our Maths lessons follow the mastery curriculum as laid out in the White Rose Hub documents to ensure that they learn mathematical concepts in small steps that build their confidence and secure their knowledge. The children's times table fluency is complimented by the use of the TTrockstars app and our home/school times table agreement.
We use the Talk for Writing model in Literacy, and this is enhanced with the use of a wide variety of picture, poetry and prose books to inspire the children to read for pleasure. The children also use Spelling Shed which is an interactive programme to enable the children to gain fluency with their spellings.
